The {BIG} Check

We just received a link to another interview Ella, Liliana, and their secretary (and mom : ) did for Cupcakes for Kiddos. Click HERE or scroll down and click the link below to watch now.

** UPDATE!! **
We let the folks at Amazima know what we were up to and received a lovely note in response.  Katie was even able to send a brief note which I don't think she'd mind if we shared.  She said "I cannot imagine how many cupcakes you had to sell but I can tell you that thousands of children will be able to have a healthy meal or medical care because of your generosity!  It makes my heart smile to think of you making such an impact for Jesus at such a young age. Thank you for serving along side of me, even from so far away!  So much love!"
Thanks again to everyone that donated and purchased cupcakes to help Ella and Liliana raise $1100.

 Ten year old twins Ella and Liliana were inspired by people like Katie of Amazima Ministries to do what they could to help others. They decided that like Mother Theresa they would help one person at a time.
Believing that  a {little} cupcake can make a {big} difference, they wanted to have a Mother's Day bake sale to honor all mothers by helping helping children. In mid April, Ella and Liliana {the founders of Cupcakes for Kiddos} officially turned their {little} idea into a {big} endeavor.

 They designed their cupcakes,

 refined their recipe,

 and prepared themselves to do a {little} thing

 to make a {big} difference.

 The word got out as Ella and Liliana did

 after interview,

 after interview,

after interview!

 Ella and Liliana secured sponsors to help offset the cost of ingredients {We spent more than $50 just on butter!}

 Thanks to Checkers for your $20 donation
and Wal-Mart for $25.

 And after hundreds of hits to http://www.cupcakesforkiddos.com/,

 the orders began to come in one email and one envelope at a time.

Ella and Liliana took care to respond personally to each order.

They received orders and donations from around the world.

   The girls filled orders from South Korea, Iceland, Western Kansas and Lawrence.
They happily accepted donations from Missouri, Kansas City, California, South Dakota, and Lawrence.

 So they opened a bank account

 filled out all the paper work,

{making certain they crossed all their "T"s}

{and dotted all their "I"s.}

 They made

 it

official!

 Along the way they took time to personally thank every generous person who sent a donation without expecting any cupcakes in return.

 And then on Thursday, May 5, 2011, they got down to business. . .
In fact, on Thursday, May 5, Ella and Liliana baked, frosted, sprinkled, and packaged more than 500 cupcakes.

They baked,

and they baked,

 and they baked {with a little help} for eight straight hours!  {from 4-12!!}

 Ella and Liliana were responsible for all parts of their endeavor - from logo design and correspondence, to baking and even the dishes!

 When the bowl was clean they baked some more.

 They mixed

 and poured

 and poured,

 and poured,

 and poured,

 and poured : )

 . . . and baked.

 And after nine dozen eggs {that's 108 eggs!}

 they had baked more than 500 cupcakes!

 So they got busy frosting.

 Ella and Liliana whipped 12 pounds of butter with 36 pounds of powdered sugar and more than a cup of organic vanilla extract.

 Then they frosted,

 and frosted,

 and frosted,

 and

 sprinkled, and

 sprinkled,

 and frosted, and sprinkled until they had

 stacks and

 stacks and

 stacks

 of delicious cupcakes ready for Friday and Saturday deliveries and pickups.

 On Friday we got our feet powered to take these perfectly pink confections for a cause to the people.

 Delivery

 after delivery,

 after delivery

 after delivery,

  after delivery,

 Ella and Liliana were greeted by happy faces thrilled to receive a sweet Mother's Day treat that will provide the gift of food, medicine, and education to children on the other side of the world who will hear {and feel} the word of God because of these {little} cupcakes.

 But, the fun didn't stop there!

 Between Saturday soccer games, softball practice, cupcake deliveries, and birthday parties, Ella and Liliana baked another 200 hundred cupcakes for a sale at Hy-Vee.

 And there, at Hy-Vee, Ella and Liliana sold another 130 cupcakes in just three hours.

 with a {little} help.

 When they got home

 they began counting

 and adding,

and tallying.

 They added all the bills together

 and began to realize

 that those 600 {little} pink cupcakes - into which that they had put so much love -

 were really going to add up to a {big} difference!

 The orders and donations they received from generous people

 around the world were combined

 one check at a time,

 Each check was carefully hand endorsed one

 by

 one!

 And then the checks were added

 to all the cash

 and the GRAND TOTAL was figured.

 So Ella and Liliana wrote the

 {BIG} check for

 $1100!
{Click (any} image to see it larger}

Yep!  Together with dozens of big hearted people Ella and Liliana raised {after deducting expenses} $1100 to donate to Amazima Ministries.  They donated the remaining cupcakes to a local organization raising money for a Lawrence friend,  Matt Reimer, a second-grader at Deerfield Elementary school, who has been diagnosed with X-Linked Childhood Adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD).  Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your help.  We will let you know if we hear from Amazima Ministries once they receive our donation.
Please "like" us on Facebook and check back in December as we help a local charity helping children with another bake sale.
Have an event?  Send us an email cupcakesforkiddos{at}gmail{dot}com - we'd be happy to make cupcakes for you - part of the proceeds will go to a charity {your choice} helping children!
